My Shepherd

John 10 v7:18

As our leader and guide we should let go of our own plans and thoughts and fears, King Jesus. You will see to our every need. Your ways are higher and Your thoughts are deeper, just as a real sheep's mind differs from its master's. Yet we do get to keep our identity, as we have been forged and shaped by You from the beginning. In the interpreting of that difference is our character, unique and developed by You, that brings us in to Your house as a valuable and individual member, one that joins with others to build Your church. Help us this day in that surrender, let us not be held back by barbs or snares, may the unseen or unknown tricks of the Enemy be undone, that we may see and walk with You unimpeded, for Your glory and name's sake. Amen.

Better Is One Day In Your Courts

Isaiah 26 v2:14

Oh to return to be with You, Lord of Lords and King of Kings. To walk in Your streets, to gaze upon Your throne, to worship at Your feet, what greater life could there ever be? And this inheritance is ours even though we did not deserve it, or come close. Thank You, Lord, we look forward to that day. Thank You, Lord, for the time, here and now, where we have work to do for Your kingdom and name's sake. We are not justified by that work, we do it out of love and gratitude and a desire for humility before You, that we can answer Your question when we stand before You at the judgement, "What did you do with the life that I gave you?" We pray all of these things in Jesus's mighty name. Amen.

Spirit Of The Living God

1 Kings 18 v20:40

You have poured out Your Holy Spirit over all of the Earth, Lord God of Israel. There is not one part missed, not one person who has not received the seed of it in his heart. It was for such a powerful hope that You died, that each and every one of us might know right from wrong, that we may be granted the ability to choose in full knowledge of what and who God is because, at the very centre of it, of us, God dwells. In that, any rejection is wilful and in need of repentance to follow; in that we have no excuse that "we did not know." You have made a way. We need Your Spirit to lead us actively into Salvation. As autonomous individuals, we have the right and ability to choose not to follow You. Today we pray for more of Your Spirit and less of ourselves, Great Jehovah. In a world beset by deceit, tricks and traps we would rather gain Heaven in Your hands than make our own way and find ourselves at fault. Teach us to walk in Your ways, even that we may help others also; that we may win renown for the One, Jesus of Nazareth, who won it all for us on that wretched Cross. For Your glory and name's sake we praise and pray, amen!

Genesis 1 v1

It is all of You, Lord. From the mountains to the valleys, through all of the bits in between. We have You to thank for its splendour and its loveliness, we have You to praise for its solidity and reality, we have You to worship for its scale and severity. Life You have created, life that is visceral and profound. Life that is fleeting yet enduring. Life that is life itself as well as life that is death and all of its tragedies and events. And You did it, and made it and desired to share it with something of that life itself. You and me. You and them. And we love You for it, even when we do not fully comprehend it. For what we do see, is written in a language and expression of love. Your goodness defines it, Your love surrounds it and Your very breath and life runs through it. And we thank You, Lord, those who stop and look and see, for it truly is flesh to our bones. Amen.
